I first heard Melissa speak during the Traditional Skills Summit, an online event, back in the summer of this year. Her topic for the event was about extending the gardening season and it was a fantastic presentation. Melissa K. Norris is a wonderful teacher.

Melissa has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to gardens and homesteading and that is no surprise as she is a 5th generation homesteader and her passion for the homestead life converted her “city boy husband” into becoming a farmer who loves the life as much as she does.

On their almost-15 acre farm, they grow most of their food including one very special variety of beans. I love this little tidbit of information that she shared:

We still grow and seed save the same strain of heirloom Tarheel green pole beans my family has been cultivating for over 100 years

After a health scare, Melissa and her family increased their food production, cut out GMO’s, ate zero processed fake ingredients, and went to whole foods, beginning her journey of “living a made from scratch life.

Today, she shares her knowledge of gardening, homesteading, and living the simpler life, online, at events such as the Summit mentioned above, and through several books.

This month, here at Homesteadian.com, our free book draw is for Melissa’s book “The Made From Scratch Life”.

I don’t have this book, yet, but it is definitely on the list. Her gardening book, The Family Garden Plan, is fantastic, so I can’t wait to add this From Scratch one to my library.

Homesteading is about community-sufficiency, where we learn from each other, support each other, and share with each other. That’s what Melissa does and that’s what we do here at Homesteadian.com

To enter our free book draw, simply create a post about a finished project on your homestead before the end of the month. You get your name entered into the draw and we get to learn from you!!

That’s the homesteading way.
