The plums actually came from my neighbours. He has a tree that is simply loaded with fruit every year.

This year, I was too late getting to them but I did manage to pick about 200 plums from his tree - and that was just off a branch or two.

200 plums made about 6 or 7 cups of plum powder.

How to make plum sauce from scratch

  • Wash plums
  • Cut in half to remove the pit
  • Cut them into chunks (I used my KitchenAid DICER attachment)
  • Freeze-dry
  • Grind into a powder (I used my KitchenAid food processor)
  • At this point, you can store the plum powder for future use as sauce or an ingredient in another recipe, Ex dessert
  • For plum sauce: mix with your favourite plum sauce recipe ingredients
  • Enjoy!

My Plum Sauce Recipe

  •  1/3 c apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 c brown sugar
  • 1/3 c honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp ginger purée
  • Some red pepper flakes to taste
Mix with equal parts plum powder and the dilute with water to desired consistency

What else do you think I could use the powdered plums for?
