Deck snacks are the best!

Goal:

My goal was to move two GreenStalk vertical towers, near to my deck, for easy access to snack foods.

It took me a week to decide on the best locations for the planters, based on ease of access, lawnmower paths, access to the garden hose, and appearance.

I finally decided on the entrance to the path behind my little fish pond.

Cement slabs (18” square) went down and were levelled out to ensure the tall planters would be stable in the wind.

Next, I took 2 of the 10 tiers and created a third planter. I already had an extra base and I had ordered two more tiers plus a water reservoir to finish off the new tower.

.. and then JUST as I finished setting them up, the delivery man showed up with the additional pieces. Perfect timing.

I now have three, 4-tier towers, which are a mixture of the large original pockets and the smaller leaf pockets. (Deeper pockets are for plants with larger root systems.)

One tower already has strawberries in it; a second tower will be for dwarf tomatoes (as soon as all risk of frost has passed) and one will be for quick access to cooking items such as chives, basil, leaf lettuce.

Once fully planted, it will be up to me to keep it all watered and fertilized, so that I have luscious healthy plants and lots of food to snack on!

Crossing my fingers on a successful gardening year. (Zone 5b, Ontario Canada; May 5)
